Democrats have the constitutional authority to pursue impeachment. That is the only proper tool at their disposal. If they do not wish to use it, they should not be given the option instead to abuse the Constitution’s 25th Amendment.

Pence would represent a temporary guardrail for democracy — a needed return to sanity and decency in the White House until Joe Biden assumes office at noon ET on Jan. 20. Now is the time for the vice president and members of the Cabinet to prove they are patriots.

Trump should be impeached. Congress should invoke the 25th Amendment, which would have the Vice President assume the President’s responsibilities. But more needs to happen. Criminal charges, when appropriate, must be brought.

the future Biden administration has been presented with an opportunity to promote a solution to the conflict, for several reasons. First, the new Democratic administration will do all it can to distance itself from the legacy of the Trump administration, which caused a rift with the Palestinian leadership… Second, having sustained several blows by the Americans and Arab states, the Palestinians appear willing to rejoin negotiations…

Biden is likely to revert to the traditional Democratic Party line of putting forward the United States as a so-called honest broker to help the two parties to reach a negotiated settlement. In practical terms, this means reviving what used to be called the “peace process” until Netanyahu derailed it in 2014, when it ceased to serve his own purpose.

But the peace process was always a charade—all process and no peace.

Biden’s team can’t afford to leave Israel and the Palestinians where Trump has left them. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has a nasty habit of dramatically reasserting its global significance just when it seems to be a historical footnote. Ignoring it would be a huge mistake.

Parler’s suspension should concern us all. I despise white supremacist content and its proliferation online, and the tweeted examples of comments posted on Parler are alarming and deeply unsettling to read. But as Kate Ruane, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement, it “should concern everyone when companies like Facebook and Twitter wield the unchecked power to remove people from platforms that have become indispensable for the speech of billions—especially when political realities make those decisions easier.”*

These companies are recognizing their responsibility for shaping our discourse and our democracy. Some will say this puts us on a slippery slope toward unacceptable curtailments of expression. They’re right, but the alternative is violent rhetoric left unchecked, which we now know too well can result in violent action.

This astonishing act of censorship by non-governmental entities that have the kind of power over the national public square that any would-be dictator would envy is being cheered by many Trump critics. They claim that it is necessary to silence people that some are characterizing as the moral equivalent of a terrorist group, even if that means characterizing millions of their fellow citizens as enemies.

The cover did not give Kamala D. Harris due respect. It was overly familiar. It was a cover image that, in effect, called Harris by her first name without invitation… Vogue overstepped. It got too chummy too fast. Harris made history. She may be a different kind of vice president. But don’t call her Kamala.

…we remain very invested in the images our leaders and role models convey and it continues to influence our own understanding of how authority looks and identity evolves. Ms. Harris’s election is personal to so many. Any cover was also going to be taken personally.

It’s the stupidest controversy since the last stupid controversy, and Harris is not even officially vice president yet.
