The desperate attempts by the Democratic Party to keep President Trump from a future run for office is telling. They are much more interested in holding onto their power than they are in conducting the important business of the American people. The impeachment is unconstitutional and the ridiculous sideshow perpetuated by the left must be brought to an end.

If removal were the only punishment that could be imposed, the argument against trying former officers would be compelling. But it isn’t. Article I, Section 3 authorizes the Senate to impose an optional punishment on conviction: “disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States.”

No one knows whether the Constitution permits the Senate to hold an impeachment trial for former President Donald Trump, now that he no longer holds office… while the Constitution mentions impeachment six times, the text of the document provides little clarity on whether the Senate’s power to try an impeached official terminates when that official leaves office.

On one side you have Republicans and conservative Democrats saying people at higher incomes don’t deserve this government help. On the other side you have liberals advocating that higher-income people should share in this largesse.

It’s a reversal of where you’d expect them to be.

Many of those advocating for more targeted aid say it is important to limit checks to lower-income people, who they see as most likely to spend the money quickly to help stimulate the economy and are also more likely to need it to meet everyday expenses. The recovery from the Covid-19 recession has been unequal.

Which Americans need help right now? Will they spend the money they get at struggling businesses, which might then bring their employees back to work and get our economy going again? When politicians lack clear answers to such questions, policy choices often rely on intuition and political ideology rather than scientific evidence.

The voters knew in the previous round of elections that Netanyahu was about to face trial. Anyone who has stayed with him thus far is probably not bothered by the trial (or is bothered — but from the opposite direction). Those who never voted for him or decided to abandon him will feel vindicated, but electorally, they no longer matter much.

For a short while, Netanyahu isn’t fighting his own case; he’s fighting for the narrative of the case. His lawyers will continue to use every possible delaying tactic on the judges of the Jerusalem District Court, but Netanyahu will be facing the voters’ judgement much sooner.

Many analysts don’t expect the trial to significantly affect voting patterns in the election. The allegations against Mr. Netanyahu have been a part of public discourse for so long that many Israelis formed fixed opinions about them even before the trial began.

The trial has nevertheless caused a split in Mr. Netanyahu’s party, Likud.

Shabbat fatigue was even a thing before the pandemic, especially for women. But when your kids are home every day and you’re not going to synagogue or hosting guests on Shabbat, the only difference between Friday and Saturday is that you eat more during the latter…

…if we use the slowing down as a chance to listen to our inner voices and embrace our deepest longings, we can come out ahead. If we engage in some “inner schlepping” to better understand and connect with our true selves, we can journey to a place of deeper fulfillment. By giving us true rest and a place for quiet contemplation, the sanctity of Shabbat can help us find that inner voice.

The beauty of Shabbat – and this is also something we have experienced during the coronavirus crisis – is that it allows us to savor life’s basic pleasures; the simple joys of hearty eating and sound sleeping, of nice clothes and good company, of walking and talking and connecting. We can only fully appreciate these when we slow things down.

The disconnect, then, between the announcement of this year’s awards contenders and the ability to actually watch those movies isn’t doing anyone any favors. Because where’s the fun in that?

…no one wants to risk a superspreader event, and stars might reasonably decide it’s safer not to go. Making the whole production socially distanced would defeat the point: If the Oscar show, of all events, is reduced to Zoom, then glamour truly is dead.
