“I couldn’t figure out where he was going, spent 45 minutes going somewhere, but I don’t think he helped with us better understanding where he was coming from on the constitutionality of this. And I felt that Mr. Schoen did a better job, but I think they sure had a missed opportunity with their first attorney there.”

Tuesday was a reminder of one of the great themes of Trump’s tenure in office: his anti-talent for choosing advisers and associates… Instead of talented lawyers making an intelligent, constitutionally plausible case against the proceedings, Trump hired two flunkies who made the “Stop the Steal” dream team of Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell look like Johnny Cochran and Carl Douglas.

Almost no matter what happens in the trial, at least 34 Republicans will vote to acquit Trump, but most would prefer not to look like utter hacks and fools in the process…In humiliating themselves, Trump’s lawyers humiliated the senators who will ultimately have to approve of their work and adopt it as their own point of view.

As some of us always feared about the result of the presidential election, this is indeed shaping up to be Obama’s third term. And once again, Israel is on its own in a diplomatic minefield where friends and enemies blur in a nightmarish haze.

Some have said Biden is now giving Netanyahu the cold shoulder as a response to the prime minister returning Trump’s warm embrace, and that could be so. But it’s worth considering the explanation that Biden is trying to be the “normal” president.

Biden’s forty-year friendship with Benjamin Netanyahu, who openly allied himself with Trump Republicans, now seems perfunctory. Biden’s admiration for Israel may be undimmed, but, as of this writing, the new President has yet to place a call to the Israeli Prime Minister… it’s hard to imagine new Israeli-Palestinian negotiations ranking high on the list of the Administration’s foreign-policy priorities.

The Jewish people today are vastly varied and diverse, which is an asset. But we have let rifts come between us: offense, intentionally and unintentionally caused, is taken on all sides. The pain is real, and it is far from the sole property of one side or another… when the Jewish people have a sovereign state, and the majority of Jews in the world are equal citizens in their countries, we must understand not only our common denominator, but also define what we share as part of a common destiny.

As a grandchild of four survivors of the Holocaust and as a congregational Rabbi, the Jewish value of Kol Yisrael Aravim Zeh La’Zeh — that all Jews are responsible for one another — stands at the foundation of my Jewish identity. (I also believe that Americans should be responsible for one another.) Any concept that pits one group of Jews against another cannot be good for the Jewish people.

Gil Troy said that in a recent conversation with Journal Editor-In-Chief David Suissa, he realized that the Jewish people now have a positive message: It’s no longer about simply being on the defensive against anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism; “We do what I call the Jew-jitsu… from never again to never alone, and that’s our message,” Troy said, adding that “we’re all together in this fight.”

The news of Bezos stepping down was revealed alongside an earnings report in which Amazon said it had its first $100-plus billion quarter ever. Naturally, the individuals who helped the company rake in $125 billion in revenue will see very little if any of that money.

His move will enable him to spend more time on other interests and find ways to spend a personal fortune that, thanks to Amazon’s booming stock price, is now about $195 billion… Second acts can transform a mogul’s public image, something seen vividly in this century’s closest philanthropic competitor to Mr. Rockefeller and Mr. Carnegie: Bill Gates.

Amazon may be what Bezos, who announced last week he would be stepping down as the company’s chief executive, is best known for, but space is a lifelong passion. And if Bezos’s career is to have a second act it would likely be focused largely on Blue Origin’s mission of building a transportation network that would bring down the cost of space travel, allowing for what he’s called a “dynamic, entrepreneurial explosion in space.”

We know that plenty of people are thrown in prison each year for crimes they didn’t commit or for long sentences that they don’t deserve. If any of them can write a good poem, we ought to have a chance to read it. But we really can do without poems by sex offenders. The problem is: That’s the kind of thing you forget to look out for when your ultimate goal is looking woke.

It is clear that Kirk Nesset did terrible things—the prosecutor in his case told reporters that Nesset’s computer held “the most child pornography that I have seen in 15 years as a federal prosecutor.” But any arts program focused on prison populations, as a matter of course, is going to interact with—even support the work of—people who have done terrible things. They’re not all going to be Jean Valjean. But they are all people.

The goal of Poetry’s issue focused on incarcerated voices could have been noble, and many of the poets featured either have family members who have been trapped in a historically racist, classist, and abusive approach to criminal justice that has been the shame of America for hundreds of years or have first-hand experience with the prison industrial complex for offenses that do not involve child rape.

Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time. He has the best case as the greatest football player of all time. He is in the conversation as the greatest team-sport athlete of all time, even if he’s not the greatest sports icon of all time.

Yes, you can make the case he is the GOAT of GOATs.

Is Brady the greatest winner in sports history? Better than Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, and LeBron James? Better than Jim Thorpe and Serena Williams? Better than Tiger and Jack? Better than Ali? Better than Secretariat?

I’m saying no. Let’s not rush to judgment based on Sunday night’s sugar high.

Brady is now objectively the NFL GOAT. Jordan is subjectively the NBA GOAT, so we will never settle the argument until somebody — perhaps LeBron James — makes opposition seem as silly as Brady just did.
