There were those in the Israeli media who tried to convince us Odeh was a moderate voice in the Arab Israeli sector and someone with whom we could even build a shared future with in this land. Of course, they ignored the fact that the man was never truly moderate in the first place.
Odeh, who likes to fashion himself as an Israeli Palestinian Martin Luther King, had a message not of harmony but rather of division, of perpetual conflict – anything but conciliation, anything but Arabs and Jews living side by side in this country, sharing the space equitably and shouldering part of the responsibility for keeping that space safe.
A spokesperson for Odeh later emphasized that the lawmaker’s remarks referred exclusively to those serving in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, as opposed to civilian police.
Against the backdrop of rising tensions and a spike in terror attacks in Israel, the tomb of the biblical figure Joseph has been vandalized.
It has been a constant flashpoint since Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 Six-Day War, and has been the site of multiple attacks, fatalities and takeovers.
While some Jews believe the biblical Joseph is buried in the tomb, Muslims say a sheikh is buried there.

In recent years, it has become common to add new symbolic items to the seder plate to bring attention to contemporary issues.
“It has become more common over the past few decades to place an orange on the Seder plate as a symbol of inclusion for LGBTQ+ Jews,” Rooks said. “Also, some people have olives on the plate as a symbol of prayer for peace.”
For the past few years, I have been adding a split open pomegranate to my Seder plate… The Talmud in tractate Chagigah uses the pomegranate as a metaphor for “sinners of the Jewish people,” a term often thrown at us formerly ultra-Orthodox Jews who have chosen a different path… But I do not think we are sinners.
The seder night is a night for telling stories, our own and the ones we think need to be told. But to my mind, we do not need more on our seder plate to make that happen. In fact, I worry that, in this case, more is less — in trying to include each particular story, we lose the universal truths.
